The 2009 Curry Cup started on Friday April 17th and will run until Friday September 18th – 23 weeks in total.
All games are to be played on the Friday of each week.
Cost is £20 per person payable on presentation evening, which will either be at the Club or Dunston Hall where Smithers shall arrange for a curry to be laid on as he did last year (great night, but what a hangover).
The winner will get the cup for a year and a free curry (not beer) on presentation night.
Entry is restricted to those who played last year, plus Mr Jenkins who wished to participate last time, but, due to work commitments, could not play.
All scores are to be texted by the end of the next day (i.e. by the end of the Saturday following).
The best 10 weeks’ stableford points scored will comprise the total score.
You will be cut each week if you exceed 36 points, by the number of points exceeding 36 – the cut will last for the following 3 weeks that you actually play, where after you will revert back to your club handicap.
As an example, if (sorry, I should say when) Mr White scores 42 points off his 20 handicap, he will cut to 14 h/c for 3 weeks - if he then scores 38 points off 14 during this 3 week period, he will be cut to 12 for a further 3 weeks.
You will all be responsible for ensuring you play off the correct handicap and I will purely put your score on the system, not question it or what handicap you played off to get it – God knows it’s onerous enough sorting all this lot out in the first place!
Please remember that despite the prestigious nature of the Curry Cup, this is ultimately a friendly competition amongst friends, nothing more.
To pre-empt some questions you may have · You don’t have to hole out – we all know what a proper gimme is – it’s not meant to be the Open ! · Play with whomever you wish and at whatever time you like on the Friday · Organise yourselves, but if there are more than 4 on the tee throw the balls up – the idea is to play with everyone, not in the same 4 ball week in week out ! · Yes, there will be interim curries arranged during the period, either at the Club or local curry houses · If you post any score at any point during the 23 weeks, you will be deemed to have entered the competition and you will be required you to pay the £20 entry fee · If possible, where a group of you play, text as many scores on one text as you can
Sadly, Curry Cup entry has been restricted to the original Nobbers (as Moby so wonderfully christened us). This is because we have had a large number of additional people who want to join in, causing too much extra work, making curry / pub nights problematic with too many people (we don’t want the whole club texting every Friday and then turning up at The Hoy!) and would also dilute our group - after all, the whole purpose of the thing in the first place is to get us all together for a laugh.
