Wk 2 - and no, really... summer has landed.

By Smithers and Verve

The weather was fine and then there was the golf.

Second week in, the sun's out and the greens have turned into saucepans.

Gunny Woods experiences the immense pressure of leading the Curry Cup and buckles to post a lowly 24 points for round two, admirably demonstrating just how difficult it is to be out front in such a prestigious event.

Woodsie is interviewed by Norris McWhirter as he attempts to set the new 'time spent looking for a golf ball' record on the first hole (he really wants it Barney - he really, really wants it) swiftly followed by having another attempt at said record on the second.

Meanwhile out in front are Stu, Mobester and Verve. Verve has a camera/phone. His partners head off fast to avoid being snapped, so Verve inexplicably takes a picture of a dead fox cub. No one can blame Barney because he's out of the country.

Nigel, Brommage, the Captain and Lee head the field.

Smithers and Craigy Nunn (non member and guest for the day) take on the gruesome twosome of Gunny and Linz in a pairs match of huge significance, the latter pairing crumbling like a Cadbury’s Flake in the face of the quite frankly awesome Smithy grind.
Stu and Mobester forge ahead determined the keep the game flowing and Nige and Captain moving in the right direction.

Stu's still trying to stay ahead of that camera.

Trouble is he's run into the back of Nige, the Captain and Brommage. Now no one's suggesting that that's the slowest three ball in the club, but let's just say Brommage spent a lot of time looking for Perry, the Captain spent a lot of time looking for balls, and then there's Nige.

Well, he just likes to spend a lot of time looking at the potential for another birdie.
Moving on.

Linz finally gives in on the 17th to Gunny’s persistent whining about losing his ball on the first and gives him a replacement ball to end it. Linz wins the singles match tussle between the two of them, regardless.
The pair of them accompany Strachs (whose like the Captain, too busy working these days to play) to the Boatyard.

Verve and Nige go to a party and the rest is in the scores below, which are as follows:

Smithy 34
Verve 34
Stu 30
Brommage 30
Captain 29
Linz 29
Nigel 28
Mobey 27
Woodsy 24
Lee 23
Verve leads on 70, Smithers 2nd on 65, and Woodsy and Mobester are in joint 3rd, with 64.

Week 1

OK, the weather wasn't that bad, it was just no one knew quite when to put the waterproofs on.

The 2009 Curry Cup was punctuated by Stu's row with a new unbrella (it didn't work well in rain), Gunny's oustanding 40 points and English drizzle.

The course played long.

Other than Gunny, Boz and Mobester, players' scores were relatively low.

They were:-

Woodsy – 40 (cut to 12)
Boz – 38 (cut to 7 )
Moby – 37 (cut to 9)
Verve – 36
Big Boy – 34
Smithy – 31
Rosy – 30
Linz – 29
Ron – 29
Stu – 29
Chaos – 28
Jenks – 25

Despite the damp weather, the inaugural meet got off to a fine start on Friday April 17 thanks to the 12 player turnout, much improving greens and filthy late visit to The Hoy and adjacent curry house.

Strangest moment of the day? No, not Stu fighting with his unbrella. Dr Hiscock, Chris Jarman, Mark Stones and Adrian Worthington all rumbled up in the same drinking party at The Hoy as part of a Thornton Cup bonding session. Pure.
